Job Title:    Youth Prevention Worker
Salary:      $15.00 per hour
Classification:  Part Time, Non-Exempt without benefits.
Hours:      1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and occasional weekend hours


Mission is, Ain Dah Yung (Our Home) Center provides a healing place within the community for American Indian youth and families to thrive in safety and wholeness.
Currently has the following open position:  (All positions require a valid drivers license with no major violations and a background check)

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:  To work in conjunction with the Ninijanisag Youth Prevention Coordinator to provide culturally-based prevention services to combat substance abuse, obesity, violence and other self-compromising behaviors amongst at-risk Native American Indian youth through cultural enrichment, peer leadership opportunities and group support.  Assist with the supervision, co-facilitation and coordination of youth activities and transportation.


Experience & Qualification Requirements: One year of college or post high school training in human services or related field.  At least 2 years experience working in a youth service setting.   Ability to work constructively with youth who exhibit a wide array of challenging behaviors.  Must be knowledgeable of the Native American Indian culture, values, and family systems.

Background:
The Indian Law Resource Center is a non-profit law and advocacy organization established and directed
by American Indians since 1978. We provide legal assistance to Indian and Alaska Native nations who
are working to protect their lands, resources, human rights, environment and cultural heritage. Our
principal goal is the preservation and well-being of Indian and other Native nations and tribes. We do this
through legal assistance to indigenous peoples of the Americas to combat racism and oppression, to
protect their lands and environment, to protect their cultures and ways of life, to achieve sustainable
economic development and genuine self-government, and to realize their other human rights.


Job Description:
The Indian Law Resource Center seeks a Program Assistant to support advocacy, research, and legal
assistance for Indian and Alaska Native nations in the United States, Mexico, Central and South America.
The Program Assistant will be an integral member of the D.C. office, will assist all project directors and
attorneys as needed, and will assist with inter-office communication between the D.C. office and the main
office in Helena, Montana. 


Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Assistant will:

  • assist the Development Director with fund raising research and proposal and report writing;
  • support the Communications Director with the drafting and distribution of press releases, alerts, the e-newsletter, and other communications activities;
  • assist and support staff attorneys with research and writing, communication with Center clients, and program implementation;
  • assist the Executive Director and D.C. Office Director with coordination of meetings with Center clients, indigenous organizations, government officials and civil society organizations; and
  • assist with office management and other administrative duties as needed.


Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and be fluent in
English/Spanish.  This person will have demonstrated understanding and commitment to indigenous
rights, and knowledge of  indigenous cultures and emerging political, social and environmental issues
impacting indigenous peoples in the Americas.  The Program Assistant must be computer proficient,
including word processing and internet research skills. Successful candidates will be self-motivated, well-
organized, and capable of working under pressure.  We seek a minimum two-year commitment.

POSITION:            ICWA Collaborative Case Manager
ORGANIZATION:  Minneapolis American Indian Center
PROGRAM:            Indian Child Welfare Program
SALARY:                Depending on Qualifications

To Promote and support reunification among Native American Families entering the Child Protective Services by providing intensive case management and coordination of resource services.  Will assist the families to understand the court process, attend court hearings, coordinate and collaborate with County Social Services to help support the family to successfully engage in court ordered services, working for family stability or a permanent plan for reunification.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors Degree in social work or related field and two years experience in legal advocacy; or
Post secondary coursework in social work or related field and two years experience in legal advocacy.
Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act, Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act, Minority Heritage Act, and other related legislation.
Knowledge of the Juvenile court systems throughout the state of Minnesota, knowledge of tribal court systems.
Possess excellent communication, computer and written skills.
Possess awareness of the Indian community and its needs.
Knowledge of the Data Privacy Policies for social services agencies.
Must have no drug/alcohol/substance abuse related problems.
Must pass criminal background check.
Reliable transportation required w/valid Minnesota drivers license and proof of current insurance.
American Indian Preference.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Solicit referrals from Tribe, County, and other agencies.
Assess the legal and social service needs of the clients.
Attend Child in Need of Protective Services (CHIPS) hearings in District Court,  Juvenile Division of Counties located in Hennepin County,  surrounding 7 County Metro Area and greater Minnesota counties.
Act as a liaison between the tribes and county social social workers.
Refer clients to social, educational, employment and other services - as needed.
Provide intensive case management.
Home visits, supervised visits between the parents and children.
Maintain confidentiality.
Maintain and keep timely records, and correspondence with tribes, all court notification, and all county social service contact(s) case information.
Maintain statistical data and provide quarterly reports to Program Director.
Attend monthly staff meetings, ICWA meetings, and participate in community events as it pertains to ICWA - as necessary.
Various duties as assigned by Program Director.
