MIWSAC ANNOUNCES 2025 MISSING & MURDERED INDIGENOUS RELATIVES (MMIR) MARCH

The Minnesota Indian Women’s Sexual Assault Coalition (MIWSAC) announced that the annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) March will take place on February 14, 2025 from 11am-2pm. This march honors Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Men, Boys, Two-Spirit, and LGBTQI+ Relatives. The march will begin at the Minneapolis American Indian Center (MAIC), and will feature a variety of speakers from the community.

The 2025 MMIR March is a collaborative effort between MIWSAC, the Minneapolis American Indian Center (MAIC), the Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center (MIWRC), the Indian Health Board of Minneapolis, the Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI), Wakemup Productions, the Minnesota Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Office, Minneapolis Public Schools American Indian Education, the Many Shields Society, and the Little Earth Protectors.

“Each year hundreds, and sometimes thousands, gather to bring awareness to the high rates of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives,” said MIWSAC Executive Director Nicole Matthews. “We use this day as a time to increase visibility of this issue, call on legislators and policy makers to be accountable to our communities, and to honor our families and relatives who have been impacted. I look forward to the day when we no longer need rallies like this, because we will have ended this violence against our people. But until then….we will take up space in the streets and continue to call for action.”

In order to increase awareness around the 2025 MMIR March and the MMIR epidemic more broadly, MIWSAC will also be sponsoring an MMIR screen printing event prior to the march on February 12, 2025 with artist Rory Wakemup at the Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center.
